Cockpit - Canadair CL-215 amphibian
Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport
Whitehorse, Yukon Territory Canada
Nikon FE + Plus-X Pan black and white negative film
Notes: The Canadair amphibian was developed to effectively deliver water to forest fires. The aircraft literally scoops water from a lake or river surface without stopping. It takes 12 seconds, traveling at 80 mph to scoop up 1600 gallons of water. It is powered by two 2,100 hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800 piston engines. A later version ( CL-415 ) utilizes turbo-prop power plants and can be seen in action in this niffty video on YouTube > Canadair CL-415
